“Left Unspoken”

by Geoffrey Munga

Dear love,
I hurry off to go to war
Where I may never return
I find it hard to write this letter
But after all I must
I pray you forgive me
For not telling you this
In your ears during our retreats
That I love your beautiful smile
That I like your golden eyes
I hate to leave you like this
When our love is as fresh as milk
But to the war I must go in
Please, I beg thee to pray for me
That when the guns come alive
And the bullets fly high
They will miss me by a mile
Because your love will always be mine
