Not missing you in the way where I

Would want to be reunited with you.

But I do very much want you to fare well –

I remember the lovely tree in 2011 that

Stood on my way to work.

I wondered if it knew there was war?

Could the bird sense something?

How did the tree continue on with flowers

When so much misery was there?

I finally found the asphalt site where

We loaded the wounded back in 2005.

Finding it gave some closure, some recognition of

A fixed point existing from one deployment to another.

So, I do think of you Oh Iraq.
