“For My Father”

by Michael McAndrew

My Dad never
Bought cars
He just leased them

I came home
On leave & saw
The bumper sticker

A decal
A message
“My son is a US Navy Sailor.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell him
He shouldn’t have done it
But it was too late

I should have told him
It was a bad investment

I wanted him
So badly
To be proud of me
