Artist Statement: This piece was created late last year for an art show in San Antonio; the theme being ‘Dia de los Muertos’ (Day of the Dead). Instead of drawing the quintessential ‘hot girl’ with her face painted in sugar skull fashion, I wanted to depict the more honest version of the people who celebrated. I imagine the boy in this picture lost someone very close to him, and despite the festivities going on around him, could not contain the pain he felt for those he’s lost.
