“Oil Fire at Dawn”

Title: “Oil Fire at Dawn”
Artist: Harry James
Size: 8” x 10”
Medium: abstract, acrylic on canvas
Artist Statement: From a distance the oil fires howled as the compressed gasses gushed out and ignited, then slowly cooked the shouting crude into a great greasy black stain across the sky.
The morning sun, unencumbered by any topographic restraints, sliced a rough space at ground level and then slowly rose in a diffused illumination that was neither day nor night.
It looked like the light was being infected by the darkness as it spread across the smothered sky.
The process used to create this painting was the same as “Convoy at Night.” This is also the “left hand” painting of the pair.
