Title: “Autumnal Death (Arlington National Cemetery)”
Medium: Digital art
Artist Statement: “Autumnal Death (Arlington National Cemetery)” is a digital, photo-based art piece that I created in my hometown of Arlington, VA. At the time, I was working on a documentary about the cemetery for the local PBS station and spending hours on site. I was overwhelmed by the sense of death, but also the solemnity and pride inherent to a place of such national importance.

Born in Arlington, VA, Christine Stoddard is a writer, director, and multi-hyphenate artist whose parents met during the civil war in El Salvador. She is the founder of Quail Bell Magazine, the author of books such as Heaven Is a Photograph, and the director of the feature film Sirena’s Gallery. She was the first-ever artist-in-residence at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House in Manhattan. Her work has appeared in Ms. Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, the Portland Review, The Huffington Post, Bustle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and elsewhere. Recent theatre credits include the Broadway Comedy Club, the Gene Frankel Theatre, DC Theater Alliance, Theater for the New City, and Table Work Press.
