Every man who recruited for volunteers had in his pack the
Flag that he used in Kaskaskia, there were a number to use as
Colors and flaunt when we fixed them on poles to prepare for the march on
Town, which we made just before dusk using the hillocks to hide the
Men from the fort while remaining completely in view of the townsfolk.
Soldiers at Sackville could view our colors above the low hillcrests,
Gaining impressions that numbers of troops were advancing upon the
Town, and to offer the appearance of many more numbers of men by
Marching and weaving around the small hillocks, we seemed to the townsfolk
Large forces marching toward town, which we entered in darkness past sunset.
