We have the honor to announce the release of As You Were: The Military Review, Vol. 23. This edition contains three dozen pieces of literary fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and artwork. The work spans multiple generations and viewpoints from across the world, a testament to the wide scope of impacts caused by the presence of militaries in societies.
Within the publication are meditations on combat, friendships, and milestones. There are explorations of identity and examinations of the meaning of the global reach of military power. There are reflections on legacies and memories as well as contemporary thoughts on a youth spent under arms. There is, in short, an impressive collection of wide-ranging work that asks and answers important questions with as much honesty and vulnerability as their gravity merits.
All of these poems, art pieces, and stories are painstakingly rendered. Many of their creators have collaborated with our editorial staff to further refine their works, a demanding process inolving intensive revision and rewriting. Often the stories are completely reshaped. All of the contributors have earned their place in the literary canon by virtue of hard work and a willingness to share deep truths.
We invite you to read, explore, and expand within the pages of As You Were: The Military Review, Vol. 23.
